New York was definitely in the building inside the Pretty Girl Playbook as Capella Grey and DJ Father Z stopped by during their visit to North Carolina’s Capital City.
With his new album, …Well Then, set to release shortly after our interview, Capella had a packed weekend ahead. The celebration kicked off with day party vibes at Peace & Saint in Durham, curated by Friends & Family, before heading to downtown Raleigh for Friday nights at Westwood, curated by Sunny Days and SheServes. The anticipation had been building for weeks, and it was clear the city was ready.
Capella Grey shared that he was feeling great about the upcoming release and was ready to “light up the summer and get them off the walls of the clubs.” If there’s one thing Capella knows how to do, it’s move a crowd. His breakout hit “Gyalis” sparked multiple remixes, including one featuring Chris Brown and Popcaan, along with a “She Mix” featuring Chlöe Bailey.
Known for his unexpected collaborations, Capella leaned into that strength on this project by assembling an impressive lineup of 16 featured artists. The album taps into the nostalgia of New York City’s legendary posse cuts and crossover collaborations that helped define an era of hip-hop. Features include Fabolous, Lady London, DreamDoll, Cash Cobain, Natalie Nunn, Max B, Fetty Wap, Kidd Meech, Vontee the Singer, and more.
Capella Grey also made it clear that this wasn’t just another album with his name on it. He wrote, produced, and recorded the project alongside his team while remaining involved in every executive decision—from coordinating features to making creative calls. Still, he laughed at the idea of fans needing to know every role he played.
At the end of the day, he understands that at 3 a.m. in the club, the girlies aren’t thinking about who produced the record—they just want a song that makes them move.

One thing that stood out most during our conversation was Capella’s willingness to own the outcome of his work. Because he was involved in every part of the creative process, he’s taking full responsibility for whatever happens next.
“If this album doesn’t go nowhere, it’s my fault. But if it goes crazy, it’s my fault too.”
